RIPEMD-160 Hash Generator
Calculate a RIPEMD-160 digest from UTF-8 text for compatibility with systems such as Bitcoin address pipelines.
Description
Calculate a 160-bit RIPEMD-160 digest from UTF-8 text and display it as lowercase hexadecimal.
RIPEMD-160 Hash Generator converts Unicode text to UTF-8 bytes and calculates a 160-bit RIPEMD-160 result. RIPEMD-160 runs two parallel 80-step compression paths and combines them into a 160-bit digest. It remains useful for compatibility but is not a preferred new general-purpose design.1
When to use RIPEMD-160 Hash Generator
Use this exact variant when a protocol, file manifest, blockchain, test vector, or interoperating system names it. Hash names and output sizes are not interchangeable even when they belong to the same family.

How the RIPEMD-160 function processes input
- Encode the entered text as UTF-8 bytes.
- Process the bytes with the selected algorithm and its exact parameters.
- Render the result in the canonical textual form shown by the tool.
Limitations and assumptions
- A bare digest detects changes but does not authenticate who supplied the data.
- Do not use a fast general-purpose digest directly for password storage.
- Character encoding, Unicode normalization, whitespace, and line endings change the input bytes.
Alternative or Complementary approaches
Use SHA-256 for broad modern interoperability, HMAC when a shared secret must authenticate data, or a dedicated checksum when only accidental transmission errors are in scope.
