Description

Divide positive integer pixel dimensions by positive print dimensions in inches for axis PPI, select the smaller PPI, and divide it by positive minimumPpi for maximumScale.

Print planning connects digital dimensions with physical sheets, ink coverage, folds, and binding. A numerical estimate becomes meaningful only after fixing physical units, material assumptions, and which areas or surfaces are counted.

Divide positive integer pixel dimensions by positive print dimensions in inches for axis PPI, select the smaller PPI, and divide it by positive minimumPpi for maximumScale.

When to use this tool

Use Image Resolution Enlargement Limit Gap when you need a print-production estimate from explicitly supplied dimensions and material factors.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter pixelWidth, pixelHeight, printWidthInches, printHeightInches, minimumPpi. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read horizontalPpi, verticalPpi, limitingPpi, maximumScale. Use the output convention below.

Divide positive integer pixel dimensions by positive print dimensions in inches for axis PPI, select the smaller PPI, and divide it by positive minimumPpi for maximumScale.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • MaximumScale is the linear enlargement multiplier relative to the supplied print size; the minimum is supplied and no resampling, source-image detail, printer resolution, or perceived quality is assessed.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Confirm stock, binding, finishing, and output-resolution assumptions with the production specification. Use an imposed proof or physical sample when fold behavior, tolerances, or actual appearance matter.
