Signed Graph Cycle Edge Parity Update Tool

Calculate signed graph cycle edge parity update from explicit caller-supplied inputs.

Description

Remove the old edge's negative indicator, add the new one, require a nonnegative count, and mark balanced for an even result.

Signed graph calculations attach numerical or orientation signs to incidences or edges. A sign on one edge or cycle is a local convention; whole-graph balance and consistency require checking the relevant complete structure.

Remove the old edge's negative indicator, add the new one, require a nonnegative count, and mark balanced for an even result.

When to use this tool

Use Signed Graph Cycle Edge Parity Update when you need to apply the supplied sign or orientation convention to a local graph record.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter negativeEdges, oldSign, newSign. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read negativeEdges, balanced. Inspect balanced before interpreting the associated values.

Require nonnegative integer negativeEdges and oldSign and newSign each +1 or -1. Remove the old edge's negative indicator, add the new one, require a nonnegative count, and mark balanced for an even result.1

negativeEdgesNegative EdgesRequired. Safe integer; minimum 0.
oldSignOld SignRequired. Safe integer.

Limitations and assumptions

  • This is a supplied cycle-sign parity update rather than a check of every cycle in a signed graph; edge membership and structural balance are not independently verified.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Construct the full signed incidence or adjacency representation for global analysis. Verify cycle constraints and orientation conventions rather than inferring graph-wide properties from one local result.
