Description
Rebase signed nominalIncome and nominalCost separately by base/source indexes and return their difference as realSurplus.
Ageing research may compare expenditure, resources, and service costs on a stated household or time basis. Equivalence weights and valuation factors are assumptions that need to be disclosed rather than inferred from the resulting number.
Rebase signed nominalIncome and nominalCost separately by base/source indexes and return their difference as realSurplus.
When to use this tool
Use Retirement Resource Real Value Index Term when you need a research cost or resource calculation with explicit supplied factors.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter nominalIncome, nominalCost, incomeIndex, costIndex, baseIncomeIndex, baseCostIndex. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read realIncome, realCost, realSurplus. Use the output convention below.
Require positive source and base income and cost indexes. Rebase signed nominalIncome and nominalCost separately by base/source indexes and return their difference as realSurplus.1

} Limitations and assumptions
- The two rebased amounts need a common currency, period, and base-price interpretation; index arithmetic does not establish spending adequacy, future returns, or a retirement recommendation.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Align currency, price year, household scope, and service definitions with the study method. Use the relevant policy or professional assessment for actual entitlement, affordability, or care decisions.
