Description
Subtract an interpolated full magnetic reference level from an observed field.
Geophysical observations depend on acquisition geometry, sample timing, component orientation, reference levels and calibration signs. Ideal travel-time depth and one-dimensional alias bounds describe supplied models rather than a complete subsurface inversion. A referenced signal or pseudodepth label needs its original physical convention.
Subtract an interpolated full magnetic reference level from an observed field.
When to use this tool
Use Magnetometer Diurnal Linear Reference Term when checking the stated local geophysical geometry, reference, sampling or calibration term.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter observedField, referenceStartField, referenceEndField, interpolationFraction. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read referenceField, correctedField. Use the output convention below.
Require interpolationFraction in [0,1]. Reference=(1-f)*start+f*end; correctedField=observed-reference.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| observedField | Observed Field | Required. Finite number. |
| referenceStartField | Reference Start Field | Required. Finite number. |
| referenceEndField | Reference End Field | Required. Finite number. |
| interpolationFraction | Interpolation Fraction | Required. Finite number; minimum 0; maximum 1. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| referenceField | Reference Field | Required. Finite number. |
| correctedField | Observed field minus the full interpolated reference level, not only reference drift. | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Field units and fraction timing must match; this removes the full interpolated reference level, not only its drift or a fitted physical model.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use calibrated acquisition records and an appropriate complete wavefield, geological or instrument model for physical inference and safe field operations.
