Description
Resolve it using cosine/sine into north, east, and positive-down components under supplied declinationRadians.
Potential-field calculations describe local gravity or magnetic adjustments and spectral operations. Sign, vertical direction, and wavenumber convention affect the result; a single factor does not produce a complete corrected survey.
Resolve it using cosine/sine into north, east, and positive-down components under supplied declinationRadians.
When to use this tool
Use Magnetic Inclination Vector Component when you need a local potential-field term with supplied coefficients or geometry.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter totalField, inclinationRadians, declinationRadians. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read north, east, down. Use the output convention below.
Require nonnegative totalField and inclinationRadians within ±π/2. Resolve it using cosine/sine into north, east, and positive-down components under supplied declinationRadians.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| totalField | Total Field | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| inclinationRadians | Inclination Radians Unit: rad. | Required. Finite number. |
| declinationRadians | Declination Radians Unit: rad. | Required. Finite number. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| north | North | Required. Finite number. |
| east | East | Required. Finite number. |
| down | Down | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Both angles use radians and declination is eastward from north; the model does not retrieve geomagnetic values, calibrate a sensor, or transform between geographic and local frames.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Process the complete survey using the intended reference model and correction chain. Check spectral conventions, boundary handling, and input units rather than combining isolated terms without their model context.
