Electrical Resistivity Array Geometric Factor Tool

Four-electrode apparent resistivity using a caller-derived signed array geometry factor.

Description

Return voltage/current as resistance and multiply by geometricFactor for apparentResistivity.

Electrical geophysical responses combine measured fields with a geometric or electromagnetic model. Apparent resistivity is a response-derived quantity; interpreting it as subsurface material properties requires additional assumptions and usually inversion.

Return voltage/current as resistance and multiply by geometricFactor for apparentResistivity.

When to use this tool

Use Electrical Resistivity Array Geometric Factor when you need one electrical-response conversion under an explicit field and unit convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter voltage, current, geometricFactor. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read resistance, apparentResistivity. Use the output convention below.

Require nonzero current and geometricFactor. Return voltage/current as resistance and multiply by geometricFactor for apparentResistivity.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • In SI, voltage is V, current A, and factor meters for Ω·m; signs are retained and no electrode geometry, contact quality, reciprocity, or subsurface model is validated.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Apply the appropriate survey geometry and inversion method to the full data. Verify calibration, units, field convention, and dimensionality before interpreting apparent quantities as Earth properties.
