Sediment Budget Storage One Compartment Tool

Constant sediment mass-rate balance; a negative final storage exposes an inconsistent supplied scenario.

Loading tool…

Description

Return inflow+production-outflow rate and add rate times duration to initialStorage.

Geomorphic process terms summarize a supplied flow, slope, area, or sediment relation. Such a term describes the selected model; it does not establish erosion rate, transport capacity, or the complete process from one number.

Return inflow+production-outflow rate and add rate times duration to initialStorage.

When to use this tool

Use Sediment Budget Storage One Compartment when you need one process-model term with explicit supplied parameters.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter initialStorage, inflow, outflow, internalProduction, duration. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read netRate, finalStorage. Use the output convention below.

Require nonnegative initialStorage, inflow, outflow, internalProduction, and duration. Return inflow+production-outflow rate and add rate times duration to initialStorage.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Flows are rates in the storage quantity per time unit; finalStorage can be negative and the simple constant-rate balance does not establish sediment availability, routing, or a physical process cause.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use the complete process model and site observations for interpretation. Review units, reach averaging, model calibration, and uncertainty rather than treating a local proxy as an observed process rate.
