Description
Parse featureJson as an object with type exactly Feature.
GeoJSON represents geographic objects with reserved members such as type and geometry. Additional members can carry application metadata, but extracting them is different from validating coordinates or the complete geographic object.
Parse featureJson as an object with type exactly Feature.
When to use this tool
Use Feature Foreign Member Extractor when you need to isolate supported application metadata from a supplied GeoJSON-like object.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter featureJson. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read foreignMembersJson. Use the output convention below.
Parse featureJson as an object with type exactly Feature. Remove type, geometry, properties, id, and bbox from its own entries and serialize the remaining members.1
GeoJSON permits additional application members, with implementation-dependent support. Extracting those members neither assigns them GeoJSON geometry semantics nor establishes that the complete Feature is valid.2
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| featureJson | JSON object text with type equal to Feature; full geometry validity is not checked. | Required. Text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| foreignMembersJson | Serialized object of members remaining after type, geometry, properties, id, and bbox are removed. | Required. Text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. |

"input": {
"featureJson": "{\"type\":\"Feature\",\"geometry\":null,\"properties\":null,\"source\":\"survey\",\"revision\":2}"
},
"output": {
"foreignMembersJson": "{\"source\":\"survey\",\"revision\":2}"
}
} Limitations and assumptions
- This extracts foreign members without validating required GeoJSON structure, geometry, coordinates, bounding boxes, or the semantics of retained extensions.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use a complete GeoJSON validator and inspect the coordinate reference and geometry when geographic validity matters.
