Geography: Latitude Hemisphere At Equator Label Tool

Label latitude with explicit N/S/equator policy at exactly zero; no sign inferred from an already normalized numeric zero.

Description

Return N for positive latitude, S for negative latitude, or that policy at zero, together with absolute magnitude.

Coordinate labels and tokens encode an axis order, sign convention, or formatting policy. Numeric compatibility and text formatting can diagnose ambiguity, but neither establishes the actual coordinate reference or location.

Return N for positive latitude, S for negative latitude, or that policy at zero, together with absolute magnitude.

When to use this tool

Use Geography: Latitude Hemisphere At Equator Label when you need a supplied geographic label or coordinate-convention diagnostic.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter latitudeDegrees, equatorPolicy. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read result. Expand result to inspect the returned fields.

Require latitudeDegrees within [-90, 90] and equatorPolicy N, S, or equator. Return N for positive latitude, S for negative latitude, or that policy at zero, together with absolute magnitude.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • The equator label is an explicit formatting policy rather than an inferred hemisphere. No coordinate transformation or geographical region lookup is performed.
  • Outputs are nested inside result. Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Read authoritative coordinate metadata when the actual axis order or reference system matters. Keep original numeric precision and explicit sign conventions rather than inferring them from a plausible label.
