Trace Element Nondetect Interval

Return an explicitly supplied nondetect interval without substituting a concentration estimate.

Description

Describe a nondetect interval with a supplied lower bound, detection limit and upper-inclusion flag.

Geochemical results depend on analyte, matrix, dry/anhydrous basis, reference composition, isotope-ratio direction and censoring conventions. A normalized ratio or local correction is distinct from a validated mineral formula or geological interpretation. Operational extraction fractions and nominal site occupancies need their original analytical context.

Describe a nondetect interval with a supplied lower bound, detection limit and upper-inclusion flag.

When to use this tool

Use Trace Element Nondetect Interval when checking the stated geochemical reporting basis, local correction or reference convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter detectionLimit, lowerBound, upperIncluded. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read lower, upper, includesUpper. Inspect includesUpper before interpreting the associated values.

Require 0<=lowerBound<=detectionLimit. Return those values as lower/upper and preserve upperIncluded as includesUpper.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • This records a supplied interval, not a quantified concentration or selected detection-limit policy; no lower-inclusion flag or probability distribution is inferred.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use verified analytical methods, reference materials and appropriate complete geochemical models with qualified laboratory interpretation for actual results and safe handling.
