Price Per Carat Interpolation

Interpolate caller comparable per-carat quotations within observed mass calibration and compute total quote; no live market catalog, implicit magic-size smoothing approval or appraisal assertion.

Description

Comparable per-carat quotations can be interpolated within their measured mass range.

Comparable per-carat quotations can be interpolated within their measured mass range. Multiplying that rate by stone mass gives a total quote.1

Interpolate caller comparable per-carat quotations within observed mass calibration and compute total quote; no live market catalog, implicit magic-size smoothing approval or appraisal assertion.

When to use Price Per Carat Interpolation

Use this tool to interpolate caller comparable per-carat quotations within observed mass calibration and compute total quote; no live market catalog, implicit magic-size smoothing approval or appraisal assertion.

Prepare the gemstone measurements, spectra or comparison data and any supplied calibration parameters. Check units, reference conditions and record alignment.

How to use Price Per Carat Interpolation and understand its results

  1. Prepare the gemstone measurements, spectra or comparison data and any supplied calibration parameters. Check units, reference conditions and record alignment.
  2. Enter referenceCaratMasses, quotedRatesPerCarat, sampleCaratMass using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
  3. Read interpolatedQuotedRatePerCarat, interpolatedTotalStoneQuote. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
  4. If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
Input fieldMeaningValue type; see rules belowRequirement
referenceCaratMassesReference carat masseslist of numberRequired
quotedRatesPerCaratQuoted rates per caratlist of numberRequired
sampleCaratMassSample carat massnumberRequired

Use positive strictly increasing reference masses, aligned nonnegative quoted rates and a positive sample mass inside coverage. Interpolate without extrapolation and return rate and total in the supplied currency basis.

total quote=piecewise-linearly interpolated per-carat rate × carat mass

Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.

Limitations and assumptions

Comparable quality must be established by the caller. Interpolating across real size-band discontinuities can be inappropriate.

Numeric inputs and returned numeric values must be finite; an unrepresentable returned value produces an error. Numeric lists are limited to 100,000 entries; the rules above may require smaller limits. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use Price Jump at Magic Size Checker: Audit actual supplied discrete size-band quotation jump across two measured masses, preserving signed changes rather than interpolate across a discontinuity; no universal magic-size pricing. For a complementary task, use Melee Parcel Price: Account heterogeneous measured/quoted melee inventory by class counts and mean masses, correctly weighting per-carat rate by carat exposure not stone count; no inferred quality/market value.
