Description
Measure the overlap of two supplied gastrointestinal sample-collection windows.
Gastrointestinal study and procedure records use explicit specimen, assay, instrument, site and time conventions. A wet/dry mass label differs from converting a sample basis, while a recorded interval differs from a physiological transit estimate. Metadata alone does not establish anatomy, assay validity or a clinical finding.
Measure the overlap of two supplied gastrointestinal sample-collection windows.
When to use this tool
Use GI Sample Collection Window Overlap when checking the stated gastrointestinal record, measurement label or timing convention.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter firstStart, firstEnd, secondStart, secondEnd. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read overlapDuration. Use the output convention below.
Require each collection interval end>=start. Return max(0,min(ends)-max(starts)) as overlap duration.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| firstStart | First Start | Required. Finite number. |
| firstEnd | First End | Required. Finite number. |
| secondStart | Second Start | Required. Finite number. |
| secondEnd | Second End | Required. Finite number. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| overlapDuration | Overlap Duration | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Touching intervals have zero overlap duration; actual collection, sample quality and clinical significance are not assessed.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use original validated clinical/laboratory records and qualified medical interpretation for actual diagnostic, procedural or care decisions.
