WCA Ao5 Drop Best/Worst Average
Compute WCA-style Ao5 from caller penalty-adjusted centisecond times, dropping one best/worst with DNF worst; two DNFs make average DNF. Raw judge penalties and current event regulations are not adjudicated.
Description
An average of five removes one best and one worst solve.
An average of five removes one best and one worst solve. A DNF sorts after finite solves and can remain in the middle.1
Enter five positive integer centisecond times, using−1 for DNF. Sort DNF last, discard one value at each end and return the retained values and arithmetic/rounded means. With at least two DNFs, both average fields are−1.
When to use WCA Ao5 Drop Best/Worst Average
Use WCA Ao5 Drop Best/Worst Average when you need to evaluate the supplied records under the calculation and evidence rules below. No official timer precision, penalties or competition approval is established.
Prepare the supplied game state, observations and explicit variant settings. Follow the card, board, coordinate and state conventions in the calculation rules.
How to use WCA Ao5 Drop Best/Worst Average and understand its results
- Prepare the supplied game state, observations and explicit variant settings. Follow the card, board, coordinate and state conventions in the calculation rules.
- Enter fiveSolveCentiseconds using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
- Read retainedThreeCentiseconds, averageIsDnf, unroundedAverageCentiseconds, roundedAverageCentiseconds. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
- If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
| Input field | Meaning | Value type; see rules below | Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| fiveSolveCentiseconds | Five solve centiseconds | list of number | Required |

average=mean(sortedSolves[1:4]) Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.

No official timer precision, penalties or competition approval is established.
Numeric inputs, where present, must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Numeric lists are limited to 10,000 entries; string lists to 128 strings of at most 128 characters each. The rules above may impose smaller limits. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors. A successfully returned false flag is an evaluated outcome; its meaning is explained above.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use 2d6 Sum Probability Table: Two fair six-sided dice have 36 equally likely ordered outcomes. Different sums have different counts. For a complementary task, use DPS Rotation Cycle Calculator: Damage per second over heterogeneous phases is a pooled ratio. Averaging phase DPS values would use different weighting.
