Description
The four-d6-drop-lowest convention builds a score by rolling four six-sided dice and retaining the best three.
The four-d6-drop-lowest convention builds a score by rolling four six-sided dice and retaining the best three.1
This tool repeats that convention for a chosen number of scores and exposes every roll so the totals can be checked.
When to use D&D Stat Roller 4d6 Drop Lowest
Use this tool to apply the stated d&d stat roller 4d6 drop lowest operation with an explicit input and unit basis.
How to use D&D Stat Roller 4d6 Drop Lowest and how it works
- Establish the text or game convention described above.
- Enter seed, statCount and run the tool.
- Read result.rolls, result.stats using the output meanings below.
- If input is rejected, correct the stated type, range, ordering or alignment issue and rerun; review successful results under the declared convention.
| Input field | Meaning | Value type | Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| seed | Nonblank reproducibility seed; at most 256 UTF-16 code units. | string | required; further conditions in the algorithm |
| statCount | Stat Count. Units, ordering and applicable branch are specified in the algorithm. | number | required; finite; integer from 1 to 16; further conditions in the algorithm |
Require integer statCount 1–16. For each score draw four independent integers 1–6 from one advancing source, retain the rolls and sum them minus one minimum; do not reorder the generated scores or select a game edition’s character rules. A nonblank seed of at most 256 characters selects the existing seeded generator unless execution context supplies random. One source advances through the request; supplied samples must be finite in [0,1). These draws are not cryptographically secure.
The default source hashes the seed’s UTF-16 units into an integer state and advances a deterministic arithmetic generator for each sample. A supplied execution-context random source takes precedence and must return finite values in [0,1). The required seed still must be nonblank and at most 256 UTF-16 code units. These draws provide reproducible sampling without cryptographic unpredictability.2
score = sum(four d6) − min(four d6) Apply the declared units, ordering and branch conditions.
| Output field | Meaning | Value type |
|---|---|---|
| result | Object containing the declared output fields. | object |
| result.rolls | One four-die array per generated score, in generation order. | array |
| result.stats | Aligned totals after dropping one lowest die from each four-die group. | array |

The output applies the declared operation to the values you supply. Establish the measurement basis, units, coefficients and any caller-selected rules before interpreting it. The tool does not independently collect or verify observations or decide whether a model or reference applies.
Supply explicit required fields with the documented types and dense aligned arrays. Unknown fields, wrong types and nonfinite numbers are rejected. Branch-specific constraints are explained above. A returned boolean, signed difference or tied result follows the stated convention; an input error instead means the required input contract was not satisfied. Very large inputs or outputs may be rejected by shared resource limits.
Alternative or Complementary methods
For a related operation, use D&D Loot Generator. Fantasy loot can be an ordinary prop that invites a story rather than a combat reward.
For a related operation, use D&D Encounter Table Roller. A role-playing encounter starts with a situation that participants can respond to.
