Description
Join with slash and optionally wrap with first-strong isolate U+2068 and pop-directional-isolate U+2069.
Fractions and ratios can be displayed with several separators and sign policies. Reducing integer terms, normalizing a denominator sign and merely changing a slash glyph are different operations.
Join with slash and optionally wrap with first-strong isolate U+2068 and pop-directional-isolate U+2069.
When to use this tool
Use Fraction Solidus Direction Isolation when you need the stated ratio or fraction presentation operation.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter numerator, denominator, isolate. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read text. Use the output convention below.
Require nonempty numerator and denominator text. Join with slash and optionally wrap with first-strong isolate U+2068 and pop-directional-isolate U+2069.1
FSI and PDI isolate a text span in bidirectional layout. The formatter adds these characters without parsing a mathematical fraction.2
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| numerator | Numerator | Required. Text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. |
| denominator | Denominator | Required. Text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. |
| isolate | Whether to wrap text with U+2068 FIRST STRONG ISOLATE and U+2069 POP DIRECTIONAL ISOLATE. | Required. Boolean. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| text | Literal formatted output under the stated grammar and display convention. | Required. Text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. |

"numerator": "3",
"denominator": "4",
"isolate": true
},
"output": {
"text": "\u20683/4\u2069"

} Limitations and assumptions
- Isolation controls bidirectional context, not mathematical direction or HTML safety. Text is not parsed, reduced or numerically evaluated.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use exact rational arithmetic when mathematical equivalence and reduction matter. Choose rendering and direction-isolation behavior for the destination rather than assuming a Unicode slash produces a complete typeset fraction.
