Glass Refractive Index Repeat Gap Tool

Two refractive-index observations with an explicit linear temperature correction, not a common-source conclusion.

Description

Return second-minus-first and subtract temperatureCoefficient times temperatureDifference for the adjusted difference.

Forensic measurement calculations require a known calibration, geometric model and uncertainty convention. A converted length, ratio or residual describes the supplied measurements; it does not establish common origin, identity or evidentiary strength.

Return second-minus-first and subtract temperatureCoefficient times temperatureDifference for the adjusted difference.

When to use this tool

Use Glass Refractive Index Repeat Gap when you need an explicit image or physical-measurement term.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter firstIndex, secondIndex, temperatureDifference, temperatureCoefficient. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read rawDifference, temperatureAdjustedDifference. Use the output convention below.

Require positive refractive indexes. Return second-minus-first and subtract temperatureCoefficient times temperatureDifference for the adjusted difference.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Coefficient is index change per temperature unit on the declared sign basis. No material match, uncertainty decision, temperature model, or forensic identification is established.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use the validated measurement method and original evidence for interpretation. Include calibration, geometry, uncertainty and the full evidentiary context rather than turning a numerical match into an identification.
