Description
Return max(0,min(ends)-max(starts)) as overlapDays.
Food access records may describe travel time, eligibility, household equivalents or service coverage. Each summary depends on its supplied denominator and classification; it is not a complete measure of household food security.
Return max(0,min(ends)-max(starts)) as overlapDays.
When to use this tool
Use Hunger Period Calendar Overlap Term when you need a transparent access, eligibility or coverage calculation.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter periodStart, periodEnd, recallStart, recallEnd. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read overlapDays. Use the output convention below.
Require ordered period and recall bounds. Return max(0,min(ends)-max(starts)) as overlapDays.1

| recallStart | Recall Start | Required. Safe integer. |
| recallEnd | Recall End | Required. Safe integer. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- This is continuous numeric day-duration subtraction without inclusive-date counting. It does not diagnose hunger or reconstruct individual experience.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Review the actual household context, service rules and source records. Combine appropriate field assessment with quantitative summaries when access, equity or nutritional needs matter.
