Food Surface Wipe Sample Area Factor Tool

Normalize a supplied analytical count without a pass/fail criterion.

Description

Scale count by reference/sample area and divide by recovery for adjusted count.

A food measurement can require calibration, recovery correction or a defined reference state. A corrected value or reporting envelope is only one analytical step and does not independently establish contamination status, shelf life or safety.

Scale count by reference/sample area and divide by recovery for adjusted count.

When to use this tool

Use Food Surface Wipe Sample Area Factor when you need the specified laboratory or bench-measurement term.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter measuredCount, sampledArea, referenceArea, recoveryFraction. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read normalizedCount, recoveryAdjusted. Use the output convention below.

Require nonnegative measuredCount, positive sampled/reference areas and recoveryFraction in (0, 1]. Scale count by reference/sample area and divide by recovery for adjusted count.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Areas share units and recovery is a fraction, not percent. No microorganism identity, acceptable threshold, validated recovery or surface safety is determined.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use a validated analytical method and the appropriate safety assessment. Review reference conditions, units, uncertainty, recovery and product-specific interpretation rather than inferring safety from a single number.
