Food Lab Result Censored Limit Envelope Tool

Preserve a nonnegative censored-result interval instead of substituting half the reporting limit.

Description

Exact yields a closed point at reportedValue; censored yields [0,limit) or [0,limit].

A food measurement can require calibration, recovery correction or a defined reference state. A corrected value or reporting envelope is only one analytical step and does not independently establish contamination status, shelf life or safety.

Exact yields a closed point at reportedValue; censored yields [0,limit) or [0,limit].

When to use this tool

Use Food Lab Result Censored Limit Envelope when you need the specified laboratory or bench-measurement term.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter qualifier, reportedValue, limit. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read lower, upper, lowerInclusive, upperInclusive. Inspect lowerInclusive, upperInclusive before interpreting the associated values.

Require nonnegative reportedValue/limit and exact, less-than or not-greater-than qualifier. Exact yields a closed point at reportedValue; censored yields [0,limit) or [0,limit].1

lowerLowerRequired. Finite number.
upperUpperRequired. Finite number.
lowerInclusiveLower InclusiveRequired. Boolean.

Limitations and assumptions

  • The nonnegative envelope is a reporting convention, not a measurement confidence interval. reportedValue is ignored for censored bounds and a zero strict limit yields an empty interval.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use a validated analytical method and the appropriate safety assessment. Review reference conditions, units, uncertainty, recovery and product-specific interpretation rather than inferring safety from a single number.
