Description
Calculate a cuff button's placement distance from supplied overlap dimensions.
Garment geometry distinguishes body and finished dimensions, elastic rest length, seamline/cutline offsets, motif phases and joining losses. A nominal coordinate or length budget does not establish material behavior or a suitable fit. Direction, angle units and the number of gaps rather than objects affect the result.
Calculate a cuff button's placement distance from supplied overlap dimensions.
When to use this tool
Use Cuff Overlap Button Placement Distance when checking the stated garment length, allowance, repeat or material-record convention.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter cuffFinishedLength, overlapLength, buttonSetback. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read buttonCoordinateFromStart. Use the output convention below.
Require nonnegative finished cuff length, overlap within cuff and setback within overlap. Return cuff-overlap+buttonSetback as button coordinate from the start.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| cuffFinishedLength | Cuff Finished Length | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| overlapLength | Overlap Length | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| buttonSetback | Button Setback | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| buttonCoordinateFromStart | Button Coordinate From Start | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- The setback is measured forward from the start of overlap under this supplied convention; fit, closure strength and sewing method are not evaluated.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use measured pattern/material properties, fitting evidence and appropriate complete production methods for actual garment fit and construction.
