Migration Drift Generation Expectation Tool

Calculate neutral one-generation expected allele frequency after an explicit migrant fraction, with zero-mean drift excluded from the expectation.

Description

Calculate an expected allele frequency after deterministic migration mixing.

Evolutionary summaries depend on sampled sequences/populations, reference states, ploidy, time units and stochastic assumptions. A mixture expectation differs from a drift simulation, and a callable-allele denominator differs from an individual count. Labels and local tree conditions do not reconstruct ancestry or establish a biological mechanism.

Calculate an expected allele frequency after deterministic migration mixing.

When to use this tool

Use Migration Drift Generation Expectation when checking the stated evolutionary record, reference, expectation or scale convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter residentFrequency, migrantFrequency, migrationFraction. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read expectedFrequency. Use the output convention below.

Require resident/migrant frequencies and migration fraction in [0,1]. Return (1-migration)*resident+migration*migrant.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
residentFrequencyResident FrequencyRequired. Finite number; minimum 0; maximum 1.
migrantFrequencyMigrant FrequencyRequired. Finite number; minimum 0; maximum 1.
migrationFractionMigration FractionRequired. Finite number; minimum 0; maximum 1.
Output fieldInterpretationReturned shape
expectedFrequencyDeterministic migration mixture; no random genetic drift despite the tool’s name.Required. Finite number.

Limitations and assumptions

  • This is a deterministic mixture expectation; despite the tool name it does not simulate genetic drift, infer migration or model selection.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use verified samples/references and appropriate complete phylogenetic, population-genetic or statistical models for actual biological inference and uncertainty.
