Transcription Onset Grid Offset Tool

Compare a supplied transcription onset with an explicitly chosen grid point without rhythmic or cultural inference.

Description

Return gridOrigin+suppliedGridIndex×gridStep and onset minus that grid time.

Musical timing can be expressed in seconds, pulses, beats and phrase positions. A grid or cycle is an explicit model; calculating its coordinates does not detect onsets, determine a tradition's meter or evaluate a performance.

Return gridOrigin+suppliedGridIndex×gridStep and onset minus that grid time.

When to use this tool

Use Transcription Onset Grid Offset when you need a supplied timing-grid, pulse or phrase calculation.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter onset, gridOrigin, gridStep, suppliedGridIndex. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read gridTime, signedOffset. Use the output convention below.

Require positive gridStep. Return gridOrigin+suppliedGridIndex×gridStep and onset minus that grid time.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • All coordinates share units; the index is supplied, not chosen as nearest. No audio detection, tempo inference or transcription accuracy is established.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Inspect the recording and its relevant musical context for transcription or interpretation. Keep time units, pulse definitions, tempo changes and source annotations explicit.
