Testimonial Source Dependence Discount Term Tool

Caller-defined power-likelihood discount, not an estimate of source dependence or a general theorem about testimony.

Description

Multiply logEvidence by weight×count and return that fractional equivalent source count.

Evidence weights and credences are numerical representations under a chosen model. Likelihood ratios, probabilities, logarithmic weights and confidence bounds have different meanings; one local calculation does not establish the truth of a claim.

Multiply logEvidence by weight×count and return that fractional equivalent source count.

When to use this tool

Use Testimonial Source Dependence Discount Term when you need an explicit evidence-weight or probability-consistency term.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter logEvidence, independenceWeight, sourceCount. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read weightedLogEvidence, independentEquivalentSources. Use the output convention below.

Require independenceWeight in [0, 1] and nonnegative integer sourceCount. Multiply logEvidence by weight×count and return that fractional equivalent source count.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Dependence discount is supplied, not estimated. Log base and evidence scale must be compatible; the heuristic does not establish true statistical independence or a posterior probability.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Evaluate source quality and the complete inference model. Check likelihood meaning, dependence, prior assumptions, normalization and uncertainty rather than substituting counts or weights for justified evidence.
