MOFA Factor Rank

Rank a MOFA factor by explained variance share.

Description

Factor rank summarizes reported variance shares without fitting a multi-omics model.

Factor rank summarizes reported variance shares without fitting a multi-omics model.1

Rank a MOFA factor by explained variance share.

When to use MOFA Factor Rank

Use this tool to rank a MOFA factor by explained variance share.

Prepare the already measured signals, counts, coordinates, fitted coefficients or sequence strings requested. Keep assay definitions, units, aligned lists and caller-selected thresholds consistent.

How to use MOFA Factor Rank and understand its results

  1. Prepare the already measured signals, counts, coordinates, fitted coefficients or sequence strings requested. Keep assay definitions, units, aligned lists and caller-selected thresholds consistent.
  2. Enter factorVarianceShares, factorIndex using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
  3. Read selectedVarianceShare, descendingRank, cumulativeShareThroughRank, topFactor. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
  4. If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.

factorVarianceSharesFactor variance shareslist of numberRequired
factorIndexZero-based factor indexinteger; minimum: 0Required

Enter nonempty nonnegative shares and valid zero-based factor index. Return first-tied rank and cumulative share through that first tied position.

rank=first descending position of selected share +1

Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.

selectedVarianceShareSelected factor variance sharenumber; minimum: 0
descendingRankDescending variance rankinteger; minimum: 1

Limitations and assumptions

Shares are not normalized; cumulative share does not include all tied factors.

Numeric inputs, where present, must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Lists are limited to 100,000 entries; the rules above may require smaller limits. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors. A successfully returned false flag is an evaluated outcome; its meaning is explained above.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use Matrix Row Balance: Measure matrix row-sum balance by coefficient of variation. For a complementary task, use ABC Linkage Rank: Rank enhancer-gene links by activity-by-contact score.
