Case Source Precision Gap Tool

Calculate case source precision gap from explicit caller-supplied inputs.

Description

Among selected records return cases, coarserCases where sourceQuantum > referenceQuantum, and maximumExcessQuantum = max(0, selected quantum-referenceQuantum).

Epidemiological records have both an observation basis and a resolution. The share of at-risk time supported by observations differs from disease frequency, while a source's stated time quantum describes resolution rather than measured accuracy.

Among selected records return cases, coarserCases where sourceQuantum > referenceQuantum, and maximumExcessQuantum = max(0, selected quantum-referenceQuantum).

When to use this tool

Use Case Source Precision Gap when checking observation support or source resolution under an explicit selection mask.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter sourceQuanta, selectedCases, referenceQuantum. Keep parallel arrays aligned. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read cases, coarserCases, maximumExcessQuantum. Use the output convention below.

Require equally long sourceQuanta and selectedCases, positive referenceQuantum and positive source quanta. Among selected records return cases, coarserCases where sourceQuantum > referenceQuantum, and maximumExcessQuantum = max(0, selected quantum-referenceQuantum). Quanta must describe resolution on the same unit basis.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • An empty selection returns all zeros. This compares supplied precision labels, not measured accuracy, uncertainty distributions or source authenticity; selected records are not deduplicated.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Inspect the original follow-up and source records before treating coverage or precision summaries as evidence of unbiased surveillance.
