Sample Detection Limit Dilution Adjustment

Apply an explicit analytical dilution factor to a detection limit on the same concentration basis without changing censored observations.

Description

Multiply a reported detection limit by a supplied dilution factor.

Environmental inventories distinguish wet/dry material, analytical detection limits, gas-volume reference states, represented area and allocation weights. A monitoring completeness fraction can exceed one when extra records are present. Supplied conversion and allocation factors need separate justification before physical or environmental interpretation.

Multiply a reported detection limit by a supplied dilution factor.

When to use this tool

Use Sample Detection Limit Dilution Adjustment when checking the stated environmental reporting, analytical, inventory or support convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter reportedDetectionLimit, suppliedDilutionFactor. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read adjustedDetectionLimit. Use the output convention below.

Require reportedDetectionLimit>=0 and suppliedDilutionFactor>0. Return their product as adjustedDetectionLimit.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
reportedDetectionLimitReported Detection LimitRequired. Finite number; minimum 0.
suppliedDilutionFactorPositive multiplier on the reported detection limit; the contract allows factors below one.Required. Finite number; strictly above 0.
Output fieldInterpretationReturned shape
adjustedDetectionLimitAdjusted Detection LimitRequired. Finite number.

Limitations and assumptions

  • The factor may be below one; no laboratory method, correct dilution direction, quantification limit or compliance threshold is selected.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use calibrated representative measurements and appropriate complete analytical, spatial or life-cycle methods for actual environmental conclusions and compliance decisions.
