Indoor Dust Surface Area Normalizer Tool

Calculate indoor dust surface area normalizer from explicit caller-supplied inputs.

Loading tool…

Description

Return netMass = grossMass-blankMass, loading = netMass/(wipedArea*recovery) and reportingMass = loading*reportingArea.

Environmental measurements can require background subtraction, recovery correction, calibration or a common reference basis. Corrected values can be signed; a numerical correction is separate from detection, analytical validity and health interpretation.

Return netMass = grossMass-blankMass, loading = netMass/(wipedArea*recovery) and reportingMass = loading*reportingArea.

When to use this tool

Use Indoor Dust Surface Area Normalizer when checking a supplied measurement correction, comparison or calibration term.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter grossMass, blankMass, wipedArea, recovery, reportingArea. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read netMass, loading, reportingMass. Use the output convention below.

Require positive wipedArea, recovery in (0,1] and nonnegative reportingArea. Return netMass = grossMass-blankMass, loading = netMass/(wipedArea*recovery) and reportingMass = loading*reportingArea. recovery is a fraction, not percent; areas use one unit and masses another common unit.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Negative net mass and loading remain signed. The correction assumes recovery applies to the net collected amount; it does not validate the wipe method, contamination extent or any action level.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use the relevant analytical method, quality-control records and uncertainty model before classifying a corrected measurement.
