Drinking Water Sampler Blank Share Tool

Audit supplied sample/blank signals while retaining signed correction and zero-domain flags.

Description

Return correctedSignal = sampleSignal-blankSignal.

Environmental measurements can require background subtraction, recovery correction, calibration or a common reference basis. Corrected values can be signed; a numerical correction is separate from detection, analytical validity and health interpretation.

Return correctedSignal = sampleSignal-blankSignal.

When to use this tool

Use Drinking Water Sampler Blank Share when checking a supplied measurement correction, comparison or calibration term.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter sampleSignal, blankSignal. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read blankFraction, correctedSignal, fractionDefined. Inspect fractionDefined before interpreting the associated values.

Return correctedSignal = sampleSignal-blankSignal. If sampleSignal !== 0, return blankFraction = blankSignal/sampleSignal and fractionDefined = true; otherwise return blankFraction = 0 and fractionDefined = false. Both signals share a common unit and calibration basis.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Signals may be signed and the blank fraction may be negative or exceed one. The zero-denominator placeholder is not an actual blank contribution, and no detection or compliance decision is performed.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use the relevant analytical method, quality-control records and uncertainty model before classifying a corrected measurement.
