Groundwater Sampling Purge Volume Term Tool

Multiply ideal cylindrical casing water volume by an explicitly supplied purge-volume count without prescribing a groundwater sampling protocol.

Description

Calculate a cylindrical casing volume and multiply by a caller-supplied purge count.

Environmental engineering quantities depend on compatible mass/volume units, reference levels, usable geometry and complete flow boundaries. Nominal bed volume differs from pore-water volume, and hydraulic surface loading differs from pore velocity. A supplied removal or recovery fraction does not establish actual treatment performance or safe operation.

Calculate a cylindrical casing volume and multiply by a caller-supplied purge count.

When to use this tool

Use Groundwater Sampling Purge Volume Term when checking the stated benign engineering mass, volume, reference or throughput term.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter casingInternalRadius, waterColumnHeight, suppliedCasingVolumes. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read oneCasingVolume, purgeVolume. Use the output convention below.

Require nonnegative internal casing radius, water-column height and supplied casing-volume multiplier. Return π*r²*h and multiply by the supplied multiplier for purgeVolume.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • This is ideal cylindrical bookkeeping, not a recommended purge procedure, representative-sampling guarantee or safe-well operation.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use measured operating conditions, verified equipment properties and a complete suitable process model with qualified engineering/environmental review for actual design and operation.
