Fisheries Resource Rent One Landing Term Tool

Calculate fisheries resource rent one landing term from explicit caller-supplied inputs.

Description

Return revenue = landedMass*pricePerMass and resourceRent = revenue-variableCost-laborOpportunityCost-capitalOpportunityCost.

Resource rent is a residual after specified costs are subtracted from revenue or price. Its meaning depends on whether labor, capital and other opportunity costs are included and whether the accounting period and quantity basis agree.

Return revenue = landedMass*pricePerMass and resourceRent = revenue-variableCost-laborOpportunityCost-capitalOpportunityCost.

When to use this tool

Use Fisheries Resource Rent One Landing Term when checking a local resource-rent residual under supplied prices and costs.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter landedMass, pricePerMass, variableCost, laborOpportunityCost, capitalOpportunityCost. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read revenue, resourceRent. Use the output convention below.

Require nonnegative landedMass, variableCost, laborOpportunityCost and capitalOpportunityCost. Return revenue = landedMass*pricePerMass and resourceRent = revenue-variableCost-laborOpportunityCost-capitalOpportunityCost.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Price is currency per the mass unit; all costs cover the same landing and include opportunity costs under the chosen benchmark. Signed prices are accepted, and this residual does not establish sustainable catch, resource ownership or total fishery rent.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use a complete economic model and appropriate opportunity-cost estimates when evaluating resource scarcity, sustainable use or total sector rent.
