Description
Return grossValue = area*annualValuePerArea*effectiveFraction and netValue = grossValue-displacementCost.
Environmental valuation assigns monetary or credit quantities to a defined change using explicit factors. Area prices, exposure damages, income adjustments and ecological equivalences embody different assumptions; multiplying them does not validate those assumptions.
Return grossValue = area*annualValuePerArea*effectiveFraction and netValue = grossValue-displacementCost.
When to use this tool
Use Ecosystem Service Area Price One Year when checking one declared valuation or equivalence contribution.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter area, annualValuePerArea, effectiveFraction, displacementCost. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read grossValue, netValue. Use the output convention below.
Require nonnegative area and displacementCost and effectiveFraction in [0,1]. Return grossValue = area*annualValuePerArea*effectiveFraction and netValue = grossValue-displacementCost. The value factor is currency per area for one year, and displacementCost must be on the same annual valuation basis.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| area | Area on the coherent length basis required by the volume or loading formula. | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| annualValuePerArea | Annual Value Per Area | Required. Finite number. |
| effectiveFraction | Effective Fraction | Required. Finite number; minimum 0; maximum 1. |
| displacementCost | Cost on the same annual valuation basis as the one-year area benefit. | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| grossValue | Gross Value | Required. Finite number. |
| netValue | Net Value | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Signed value factors are accepted. The effective fraction is supplied; the calculation does not establish ecosystem condition, additionality, benefit transfer validity or that different services can be added without double counting.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use an appropriate empirical model and examine transferability, causal attribution and double counting before interpreting a complete environmental benefit estimate.
