Description
Calculate crowdfunding proceeds after platform fees and a modeled reward-fulfillment surplus.
Startup cash budgets distinguish available funds, committed outlays, restricted balances and expected receipts. Subtracting commitments can create a negative balance even while total cash remains positive; dividing by burn assumes a constant spending rate.
Calculate crowdfunding proceeds after platform fees and a modeled reward-fulfillment surplus.
When to use this tool
Use Crowdfunding Reward Fulfillment Net Margin when checking a supplied cash commitment, balance or runway contribution.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter pledges, platformFraction, rewards, unitCost, shippingPerReward, fixedCost. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read netProceeds, fulfillmentCost, surplus. Use the output convention below.
Require nonnegative pledges, unitCost, shippingPerReward and fixedCost, platformFraction in [0,1] and nonnegative whole rewards. netProceeds = pledges*(1-platformFraction); fulfillmentCost = rewards*(unitCost+shippingPerReward)+fixedCost; surplus = netProceeds-fulfillmentCost.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| pledges | Pledges | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| platformFraction | Platform Fraction | Required. Finite number; minimum 0; maximum 1. |
| rewards | Rewards | Required. Safe integer; minimum 0. |
| unitCost | Unit Cost | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| shippingPerReward | Shipping Per Reward | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| fixedCost | Fixed Cost | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| netProceeds | Net Proceeds | Required. Finite number. |
| fulfillmentCost | Fulfillment Cost | Required. Finite number. |
| surplus | Surplus | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Use one currency. Taxes, failed collections, refunds and changing fulfillment costs are omitted; a positive modeled surplus does not prove a campaign is adequately funded.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use a dated cashflow forecast and the actual funding or payment terms when timing, changing burn or enforceability matters.
