Description
Label a voucher's recorded sex-assessment status.
Insect observations distinguish specimen anatomy, taxonomic sources, recorded visits, catch categories and sampling effort. Bulb-hours differ from elapsed trap-hours, and a landmark length/width ratio differs from an aerodynamic wing aspect ratio. Nondetection, missing observation and uncertain classification require their own record states.
Label a voucher's recorded sex-assessment status.
When to use this tool
Use Insect Voucher Sex Uncertain Token when you already have voucherId, recordedSex and need to label a voucher's recorded sex-assessment status.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter voucherId, recordedSex. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read label. Use the output convention below.
Require voucherId nonempty and recordedSex female, male, unknown, uncertain or not-assessed; append the supplied code.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| voucherId | Voucher Id | Required. Text; minimum UTF-16 length 1; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. |
| recordedSex | Recorded Sex | Required. Text; one of "female", "male", "unknown", "uncertain", "not-assessed"; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| label | Label | Required. Text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- No specimen is examined and no biological sex is inferred. Unknown, uncertain and not assessed remain distinct record states.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Inspect original specimens, images, recordings and trap logs when verifying observations. Use the complete survey and calibration method for abundance or behavioral conclusions, preserving effort, detection and taxonomic definitions rather than treating one rate or label as that analysis.
