Energy Poverty Bill Income Share Term Tool

Energy expenditure share under an explicit income denominator; no poverty threshold or jurisdictional classification.

Description

share = bill/incomeBase.

Energy price comparisons require consistent delivered or input energy units, efficiency, calorific basis and reporting period. Dividing by efficiency increases the input needed for a delivered unit; nominal price differences alone need not represent a saving.

share = bill/incomeBase.

When to use this tool

Use Energy Poverty Bill Income Share Term when checking one supplied energy-price normalization or cost contribution.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter bill, income, housingCost, afterHousing. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read incomeBase, share. Use the output convention below.

Require nonnegative bill and housingCost and positive incomeBase = income-housingCost when afterHousing is true, otherwise income. share = bill/incomeBase.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • All monetary amounts cover the same period. A share above one is allowed; no energy-poverty classification, needs adjustment or eligibility threshold is selected.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use the full tariff, operating profile and cost boundary when assessing real bills, investments or load-shifting decisions.
