Electricity Bill Standing Variable Split Tool

Flat standing and volumetric charges with one explicitly supplied tax applied to their combined base.

Loading tool…

Description

standing = days*standingPerDay; variable = kwh*pricePerKwh; tax = (standing+variable)*taxRate; total = standing+variable+tax.

An energy bill can combine fixed, usage-based and tax components. Applying one supplied tax fraction to an amount differs from determining a jurisdiction’s taxable base, exemptions and legally applicable charge.

standing = days*standingPerDay; variable = kwh*pricePerKwh; tax = (standing+variable)*taxRate; total = standing+variable+tax.

When to use this tool

Use Electricity Bill Standing Variable Split when checking a supplied energy bill or tax-wedge arithmetic.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter days, standingPerDay, kwh, pricePerKwh, taxRate. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read standing, variable, tax, total. Use the output convention below.

Require nonnegative whole days, nonnegative kwh and taxRate > -1. standing = days*standingPerDay; variable = kwh*pricePerKwh; tax = (standing+variable)*taxRate; total = standing+variable+tax.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Rates share a currency and taxRate is a fraction. Signed rates and tax reductions are allowed; the model taxes both components identically and does not fetch an actual tariff.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Consult the actual tariff and applicable tax treatment before interpreting a formula as a bill or amount owed.
