Emergency Deidentified Age Top Code Tool

Top-code a supplied nonnegative age at an explicit inclusive threshold without claiming privacy-law compliance or complete deidentification.

Description

Top-code a supplied recorded age at an explicit threshold.

Emergency records distinguish event clocks, retrospective entry times, equipment dates, encounter identifiers and recorded triage or laboratory states. A supplied time gap is not a verified performance measure, and a recorded seal expiry does not establish equipment readiness. Simulation duty fractions and role labels describe training records rather than emergency-care instructions.

Top-code a supplied recorded age at an explicit threshold.

When to use this tool

Use Emergency Deidentified Age Top Code when you already have recordedAgeYears, suppliedTopCodeYears and need to top-code a supplied recorded age at an explicit threshold.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter recordedAgeYears, suppliedTopCodeYears. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read displayAge, topCoded. Inspect topCoded before interpreting the associated values.

Require recordedAgeYears and threshold>=0; at or above threshold return threshold+ and topCoded=true, otherwise the numeric age spelling and false.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Fractional ages and thresholds are accepted. This changes display only and does not anonymize the underlying record or establish disclosure compliance.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Review the actual event, equipment and laboratory records with verified timing and the complete clinical workflow. Treat local flags and interval arithmetic as record checks; they do not supply triage, response protocols, safe staffing or an assessment of a real emergency.
