Potentiostat Over Range Flag

Compare a signed current reading’s magnitude with an explicit inclusive potentiostat range without selecting an instrument setting.

Loading tool…

Description

Compare a current magnitude with a supplied potentiostat range.

Electrochemical quantities require explicit electrode references, current sign, area definition and time basis. Geometric area differs from active-area conventions, charge differs from charge equivalents, and a logarithmic current coordinate needs a same-unit reference magnitude. Local sign changes and coordinate terms do not fit kinetics or establish a valid experiment.

Compare a current magnitude with a supplied potentiostat range.

When to use this tool

Use Potentiostat Over Range Flag when you already have measuredCurrentAmperes, selectedRangeAmperes and need to compare a current magnitude with a supplied potentiostat range.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter measuredCurrentAmperes, selectedRangeAmperes. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read overRange, absoluteRangeFraction. Inspect overRange before interpreting the associated values.

Require selectedRangeAmperes>0; return abs(current)>range and abs(current)/range.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
measuredCurrentAmperesMeasured Current AmperesRequired. Finite number.
selectedRangeAmperesSelected Range AmperesRequired. Finite number; strictly above 0.
Output fieldInterpretationReturned shape
overRangeStrict magnitude>range comparison; equality is not over range.Required. Boolean.
absoluteRangeFractionAbsolute Range FractionRequired. Finite number.

Limitations and assumptions

  • Equality is not over range. No instrument is read, clipping verified, selected range approved or measurement uncertainty assessed.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Inspect calibrated instrument records, reference-electrode details, area definitions and the complete experiment before interpreting results. Use the full electrochemical model and verified operating conditions when a local current, charge, sweep or impedance-representation term cannot answer the scientific question.
