Electrochemical Surface Charge Background Term Tool

Subtract supplied background charge and normalize by an explicit positive electrode area without selecting surface-area calibration.

Description

Subtract a supplied background charge and normalize by electrode area.

Electrochemical quantities require explicit electrode references, current sign, area definition and time basis. Geometric area differs from active-area conventions, charge differs from charge equivalents, and a logarithmic current coordinate needs a same-unit reference magnitude. Local sign changes and coordinate terms do not fit kinetics or establish a valid experiment.

Subtract a supplied background charge and normalize by electrode area.

When to use this tool

Use Electrochemical Surface Charge Background Term when you already have integratedCharge, backgroundCharge, electrodeArea and need to subtract a supplied background charge and normalize by electrode area.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter integratedCharge, backgroundCharge, electrodeArea. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read netCharge, chargePerArea. Use the output convention below.

Require electrodeArea positive/finite; netCharge=integratedCharge-backgroundCharge, chargePerArea=netCharge/area.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
integratedChargeIntegrated ChargeRequired. Finite number.
backgroundChargeBackground ChargeRequired. Finite number.
electrodeAreaElectrode AreaRequired. Finite number; strictly above 0.
Output fieldInterpretationReturned shape
netChargeNet ChargeRequired. Finite number.
chargePerArea(integratedCharge-backgroundCharge)/electrodeArea; signed, with a supplied area basis.Required. Finite number.

Limitations and assumptions

  • Charge signs, units and area definition must match. No current integration, background estimation, surface coverage or reaction assignment is performed.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Inspect calibrated instrument records, reference-electrode details, area definitions and the complete experiment before interpreting results. Use the full electrochemical model and verified operating conditions when a local current, charge, sweep or impedance-representation term cannot answer the scientific question.
