Description
Label current polarity under a supplied charging-sign convention.
Electrochemical quantities require explicit electrode references, current sign, area definition and time basis. Geometric area differs from active-area conventions, charge differs from charge equivalents, and a logarithmic current coordinate needs a same-unit reference magnitude. Local sign changes and coordinate terms do not fit kinetics or establish a valid experiment.
Label current polarity under a supplied charging-sign convention.
When to use this tool
Use Battery Charge Discharge Polarity when you already have currentAmperes, positiveMeansCharging and need to label current polarity under a supplied charging-sign convention.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter currentAmperes, positiveMeansCharging. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read state, magnitudeAmperes. Use the output convention below.
Return zero-current at current=0; otherwise charging when the current sign matches positiveMeansCharging and discharging otherwise. Return abs(current) in amperes.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| currentAmperes | Current Amperes | Required. Finite number. |
| positiveMeansCharging | Selects how the current sign maps to charging/discharging; exact zero is always zero-current. | Required. Boolean. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| state | State | Required. Text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. |
| magnitudeAmperes | Magnitude Amperes | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- This classifies a supplied sign only, not state of charge, energy flow, device operation or safe charging conditions.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Inspect calibrated instrument records, reference-electrode details, area definitions and the complete experiment before interpreting results. Use the full electrochemical model and verified operating conditions when a local current, charge, sweep or impedance-representation term cannot answer the scientific question.
