Description
Sum each component and return residualReal, residualImaginary and their hypotenuse magnitude.
Sinusoidal electrical calculations need a common frequency, phase reference and RMS or peak convention. Phasor sums, complex power and composite RMS describe different operations; a sign label alone does not establish a physical connection or waveform.
Sum each component and return residualReal, residualImaginary and their hypotenuse magnitude.
When to use this tool
Use Residual Current Three Conductor Vector Term when checking a stated phasor, power or RMS convention.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter real, imaginary. Keep parallel arrays aligned. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read residualReal, residualImaginary, magnitude. Use the output convention below.
Require exactly three real and three imaginary current components. Sum each component and return residualReal, residualImaginary and their hypotenuse magnitude.1

} Limitations and assumptions
- All phasors must share frequency, reference phase and RMS or peak convention. This vector residual does not validate a protective device or establish safe leakage current.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use compatible measured waveforms and a complete circuit or harmonic model when signals are distorted, references differ or practical limits matter.
