Capacitor Leakage Power Fraction Tool

Compare ideal resistive leakage power with a supplied total power, without component safety assessment.

Loading tool…

Description

leakagePower = voltage²/leakageResistance; fraction = leakagePower/totalPower.

Electrical dissipation and temperature coefficients depend on operating conditions and component reference values. A calculated loss, local temperature factor or supplied-rating margin is only part of a thermal and reliability assessment.

leakagePower = voltage²/leakageResistance; fraction = leakagePower/totalPower.

When to use this tool

Use Capacitor Leakage Power Fraction when checking one supplied loss, temperature or power-margin term.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter voltage, leakageResistance, totalPower. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read leakagePower, fraction. Use the output convention below.

Require positive leakageResistance and totalPower. leakagePower = voltage²/leakageResistance; fraction = leakagePower/totalPower.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Use volts, ohms and watts. The fraction may exceed one because the supplied total is not reconciled; actual leakage, insulation integrity and component rating are not verified.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use manufacturer ratings, thermal paths, derating and transient conditions for a complete practical design.
