Description
Calculate group-seat capacity and a learner-count surplus or shortage.
Educational records need explicit score maxima, optional-criterion policy, timing allowances, choice positions and group capacities. Optional points and their maxima must use the same inclusion rule. Nominal seat counts and supplied extension fractions do not establish actual accessibility, attendance, appropriate support or assessment fairness.
Calculate group-seat capacity and a learner-count surplus or shortage.
When to use this tool
Use Classroom Group Excess Seat Count when you already have groupCount, seatsPerGroup, learnerCount and need to calculate group-seat capacity and a learner-count surplus or shortage.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter groupCount, seatsPerGroup, learnerCount. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read availableSeats, excessSeats, shortfallSeats. Use the output convention below.
Require nonnegative safe whole group count, seats/group and learners; multiply groups*seats with BigInt, export safe capacity and return nonnegative excess and shortfall.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| groupCount | Group Count | Required. Safe integer; minimum 0. |
| seatsPerGroup | Seats Per Group | Required. Safe integer; minimum 0. |
| learnerCount | Learner Count | Required. Safe integer; minimum 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| availableSeats | Exact groups*seats/group product exported only when it remains a safe integer. | Required. Safe integer. |
| excessSeats | Excess Seats | Required. Safe integer. |
| shortfallSeats | Shortfall Seats | Required. Safe integer. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Unsafe output counts are rejected. Nominal seats do not establish room layout, accessibility, staffing, actual availability or safe occupancy.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Review the complete rubric, course and accommodation policy, schedule and actual classroom arrangement for operational decisions. Work with the full records when scoring, grouping or access matters beyond one supplied count, tag comparison or time allowance.
