Description
deduction = min(rawMark,cap,periods*penaltyPerPeriod); finalMark = rawMark-deduction.
Scoring rules combine points, item weights, boundaries and policies for omission, extra credit or missing items. A computed mark is meaningful only under those explicit rules; applying a rule does not establish its fairness or official status.
deduction = min(rawMark,cap,periods*penaltyPerPeriod); finalMark = rawMark-deduction.
When to use this tool
Use Assignment Late Penalty Explicit Cap when checking one supplied scoring contribution or policy boundary.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter rawMark, periods, penaltyPerPeriod, cap. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read deduction, finalMark. Use the output convention below.
Require nonnegative rawMark, penaltyPerPeriod and cap and nonnegative whole periods. deduction = min(rawMark,cap,periods*penaltyPerPeriod); finalMark = rawMark-deduction.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| rawMark | Raw Mark | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| periods | Periods | Required. Safe integer; minimum 0. |
| penaltyPerPeriod | Penalty Per Period | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| cap | Cap | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| deduction | Deduction | Required. Finite number. |
| finalMark | Final Mark | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- The cap is an absolute mark amount, not a percentage. Periods and penalty eligibility are supplied; no deadline calendar or official policy is established.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use the complete approved rubric and score record for an official outcome, and examine measurement quality separately.
