Wage Basket Workday Equivalent Tool

Express supplied basket cost in wage-day equivalents under an explicit paid-day basis, without selecting a historical basket.

Description

workdayEquivalent = basketCost/(dailyWage*paidDaysPerWorkday).

Historical wages can include cash, rations and other in-kind compensation and may use local units and paid-day conventions. Basket equivalents and wage-day ratios require those choices to be explicit before making living-standard comparisons.

workdayEquivalent = basketCost/(dailyWage*paidDaysPerWorkday).

When to use this tool

Use Wage Basket Workday Equivalent when checking a supplied historical wage or compensation conversion.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter dailyWage, suppliedBasketCost, paidDaysPerWorkday. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read workdayEquivalent. Use the output convention below.

Require positive dailyWage and paidDaysPerWorkday and nonnegative suppliedBasketCost. workdayEquivalent = basketCost/(dailyWage*paidDaysPerWorkday).1

Limitations and assumptions

  • The factor declares paid-day equivalents per modeled workday. It does not establish historical working calendars, household needs or an appropriate living-standard basket.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Verify archival units, period, worker and household context and basket suitability before comparing real historical incomes.
