Description
effectiveWeight = rawWeight*exposure when useExposure, otherwise rawWeight.
Panel transformations and regression weights depend on entity, period and weighting conventions. Demeaning or differencing a supplied value is separate from fitting fixed effects, validating panel structure or choosing a statistically appropriate weight.
effectiveWeight = rawWeight*exposure when useExposure, otherwise rawWeight.
When to use this tool
Use Regression Weight Exposure Base when checking one panel transformation or declared observation weight.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter rawWeight, exposure, useExposure. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read effectiveWeight. Use the output convention below.
Require nonnegative rawWeight and exposure. effectiveWeight = rawWeight*exposure when useExposure, otherwise rawWeight.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| rawWeight | Raw Weight | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| exposure | Exposure | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| useExposure | Use Exposure | Required. Boolean. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| effectiveWeight | Effective Weight | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Exposure is validated even when unused. This supplied weight convention does not distinguish survey, precision and frequency weights or establish an appropriate regression specification.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use a suitable complete estimator and validated data structure for panel inference, weighting and missing-data treatment.
