Panel Missing Time Gap

Count omitted equally spaced time indices between explicitly increasing panel observations, requiring alignment to a supplied integer step.

Loading tool…

Description

Count missing expected steps between ordered panel indices.

Econometric calculations separate supplied residuals, regressors, weights, restrictions, panel groups and reference periods. One score or moment contribution is not a fitted estimator, and one scalar covariance term is not a standard error. Unit rescaling and event-time arithmetic preserve conventions without establishing model identification or causal interpretation.

Count missing expected steps between ordered panel indices.

When to use this tool

Use Panel Missing Time Gap when you already have observedIndices, expectedStep and need to count missing expected steps between ordered panel indices.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter observedIndices, expectedStep. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read missingBetween. Use the output convention below.

Require expectedStep a positive safe integer and observed indices strictly increasing safe integers. Each adjacent difference must be safe and divisible by expectedStep; return difference/step-1.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
observedIndicesObserved IndicesRequired. Array of safe integer; maximum items 256.
expectedStepExpected StepRequired. Safe integer; minimum 1.
Output fieldInterpretationReturned shape
missingBetweenOne count per adjacent observed pair, excluding before/after-series missing values.Required. Array of safe integer; maximum items 256.

Limitations and assumptions

  • Empty/singleton inputs return no between-row counts. No missing values before/after the series, calendar grid, interpolation or panel balance is inferred.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Fit and evaluate the full specified model with appropriate data, grouping and uncertainty treatment for inference. Aggregate the required score/moment terms and use the complete covariance calculation; a local residual, cutoff flag or supplied coefficient transformation does not validate the estimator.
