Description
factor = clusters/(clusters-1)*(observations-1)/(observations-parameters).
Regression diagnostics and robust covariance calculations combine design information, residual terms and estimator-specific normalization. One leverage quadratic form, outer product or correction factor is only part of the full procedure.
factor = clusters/(clusters-1)*(observations-1)/(observations-parameters).
When to use this tool
Use Panel Cluster Degrees Freedom Factor when checking one supplied design or covariance contribution.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter observations, parameters, clusters. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read factor. Use the output convention below.
Require whole observations >= 2, parameters in [0,observations-1] and clusters in [2,observations]. factor = clusters/(clusters-1)*(observations-1)/(observations-parameters).1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| observations | Observations | Required. Safe integer; minimum 2. |
| parameters | Parameters | Required. Safe integer; minimum 0. |
| clusters | Clusters | Required. Safe integer; minimum 2. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| factor | Factor | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- This is one small-sample covariance multiplier, not a complete clustered standard error. Cluster assignments, estimator convention and asymptotic adequacy are not checked.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use a complete estimator with matching weighting, clustering, degrees-of-freedom and normalization conventions for inference.
