Description
Assign supplied food-web resource and consumer labels under a direction flag.
Ecological records need explicit sampling units, detection states, effort denominators, interval geometry and trait/abundance bases. Nondetection differs from absence, and shared sampling-unit labels do not alone diagnose pseudoreplication. A one-axis overlap or single weighted contribution is only a limited component of a broader ecological analysis.
Assign supplied food-web resource and consumer labels under a direction flag.
When to use this tool
Use Food Web Link Direction Tag when you already have firstTaxon, secondTaxon, firstIsResource and need to assign supplied food-web resource and consumer labels under a direction flag.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter firstTaxon, secondTaxon, firstIsResource. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read resource, consumer. Use the output convention below.
Require both taxon labels nonempty; firstIsResource selects the first as resource and second as consumer, otherwise reverse them.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| firstTaxon | First Taxon | Required. Text; minimum UTF-16 length 1; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. |
| secondTaxon | Second Taxon | Required. Text; minimum UTF-16 length 1; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. |
| firstIsResource | First Is Resource | Required. Boolean. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| resource | Resource | Required. Text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. |
| consumer | Consumer | Required. Text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. |

"firstTaxon": "Plant A",
"secondTaxon": "Insect B",

"output": {

} Limitations and assumptions
- No taxonomy, trophic interaction, evidence or edge-direction convention is independently verified.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Review original survey records, sampling design, specimens and calibration definitions for an ecological conclusion. Use complete detection, population, community or process models as appropriate; local count rates and source labels do not infer unobserved states or ecological mechanisms.
