Stratigraphic Contact Gradational Token Tool

Label an explicitly recorded stratigraphic contact character without identifying contacts from data.

Description

Label a supplied stratigraphic-contact observation category.

Earth-science records distinguish depth signs, vertical datums, before-present ages, calibration factors and specimen definitions. Apparent porosity can be negative for inconsistent density inputs, and core recovery may exceed the drilled interval. Local labels and supplied transformations do not establish geological interpretation, physical validity or actual observation quality.

Label a supplied stratigraphic-contact observation category.

When to use this tool

Use Stratigraphic Contact Gradational Token when you already have contactId, contactType and need to label a supplied stratigraphic-contact observation category.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter contactId, contactType. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read label. Use the output convention below.

Require contactId nonempty and contactType sharp/gradational/uncertain/not-observed; append it.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • No contact is inspected, boundary detected, lithology inferred or geological interpretation verified.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use verified survey, sample, sensor and timescale records with consistent units and reference frames. Apply the complete geological, hydrological or physical model when local density ratios, depth spans or calibration terms cannot establish the required interpretation.
